Ricky Stone's "Don't Vote For Me" campaign continues - reply to DJMag
03 September 2009
DJ Ricky Stone
On last week DJMag's chief Lesley Wrightwhich told in her interview to skruff.com that Ricky Stone's campaign against this year DJMag poll is just a marketing move to gain more attention to his person. You can read the full interview here . Now HousePlanet got an excusive Ricky's reply to her words and the battle continues...
DJMag: "Ricky Stone is nothing more than a hypocrite. His 'don't vote for me' campaign is the most laughable U-turn I've ever come across in the history of the Top 100 DJs poll.”
"Hahaha im glad you find it funny, a bit like the chart itself! why am I a hypocrite? As I said in my previous statement to Skrufff ‘I was one of the biggest and most proactive ‘Vote for Me’ guys out there but we feel that the chart lost a lot of credibility over the past year’  it’s a bit like food – I used to like oranges, now I like apples."
DJMag: “For him to suggest that the poll is simply constructed on who has the best marketing team is most certainly a case of pot-kettle-black. I've never known anyone to embark on such intense marketing campaigns as Stone.”
"That’s true yes we did have intense marketing campaigns and that’s how we got into the chart!!!! from the marketing lol, so again as I said quote ‘It’s really a poll of who has the best marketing team and I don’t believe it is healthy for the scene anymore’ From the feedback from the first interview I did with Skruff cant believe how many people are in agreeance with me!"
DJMag: “It's a bit rich for Ricky to stick the boot into the Top 100 after he's marketed himself as 'Asia's No.1 DJ' since he first appeared in it. There's no doubt he's gained more gigs and had his bank balance fattened by his position in previous polls.”
"We never marketed me as 'Asia's No.1 DJ' – we marketed me as 'Asia's No.1 Ranked based DJ' which I was according to your poll no? Lets not talk about ‘fattening our bank balances’ shall we ;) Isnt that what this issue brings? Why would I ask people NOT to vote for me if I wanted only the money? There is no reverse psychology here, no secret under messages – what is it that Dj Mag DON’T UNDERSTAND? I repeat again ‘I DO NOT WANT TO BE IN THIS POLL’ – it doesn’t mean ANYTHING – I am just saying what everyone already knows! Maybe they don’t like the fact that it has been said by someone still ranked 35 in their precious chart, cant people voice an opinion about their precious chart."
DJMag: “Who knows, maybe Stone has run out of ideas this year. Or maybe he fears that his position will drop so dramatically that he's already dressing it up to avoid embarrassment.”
"Run out of ideas? Embarrassed ? Dressing it up ? Haha Not at all. We decided not to run for any votes this year 6 months before voting even started. Why would I fear I would drop [or care] if I have already asked people not to vote for me. That doesn’t make sense does it? I hope that I am not in the chart at all. I used to think this chart was important to be in and actually now realize that it isn’t at all."
