Belfast bad boys, Jet Project, are running their city at the moment. Their recent slew of tracks on labels such as Viva, Darkroom Dubs, as well as our very own Get Digital with the scorching hot 'Zuma', have been getting them attention with DJ's great and small. Chugging right along in very tastefully form, the lads lend their services once again to Get Digital. However, this time it is an E.P. all for themselves and deservedly so with hauntingly epic 'Understand This'.
'Understand This' is a clinic of how to mold proper song structure into dance music form. All the key elements are there: A discernible intro, strong vocals with meaning, and a proper breakdown that utilizes a whole new group of sounds. Writing tunes like these takes knowledge, effort, and passion.
The dub version strips the male vocal hook away, but leaves the snippets and effects from it in there. Allowing the track to ride on its full bass line and warped synth patterns. Simple changes that immediately evoke a deeper vibe.
'Dhak' is the final piece to complete the triad of tunes on this release. No less quality here than 'Understand This'. Rather a bit more driving and aimed with its sights directly on the area of the club we like to call: The dance floor.
'Understand This' might possibly be their most detailed track, something they take a lot of pride in, considering today's over saturated market of loop based music. Jet Project put in work. And what they put in, they get back. Expect a reappearance within the GPM family from this talented duo very soon.
