![]() Having ended 2008 on a high with Mark Trophy’s ‘Out Of My Mind’ reaching the top 20 in the Beatport House chart, SUESSE records returns with a remix package of an all time classic, 99th Floor Elevators ‘Hooked.’ The last time the label re-visited a classic was with Marc Leaf’s re-working of Ralphi Rosario’s ‘You Used To Hold Me’ which topped the Beatport House chart in the summer of 2006 and the belief from the camp is that this could happen again. ‘Hooked’ was originally released by Adrian Fusiarski and Clive Latham, the 99th Floor Elevators, in 1994 but through a seminal remix from the late Tony De Vit was commercially released by PWL in 1995 and reached number 19 in the Official charts in the UK. It was this remix from Tony De Vit that set Tony on the way to becoming one of the most influential DJs of a generation and ‘Hooked’ is still regarded as one of the all time classics from the London club night Trade. Fast forward to 2009 and SUESSE label boss, Richard Colman, felt compelled to take on the task of bringing the classic up to date with the help of some of the names to watch in 2009. Richard’s mix takes the main riff from the original and mashes it with a Giorgio Moroder infused bassline to create a version that has shades of what Donna Summer ‘I Feel Loved’ might sound if it was created today. The demo mix was tried and tested on the Trade dance floor in October of 2008 and the reaction was amazing and the full mix was finished soon after. Backing up Richard Colman’s mix is Mark Trophy’s re-working. Mark had an excellent 2008 with his track ‘Ripper’ being hammered all year round. Mark twists his mix into a tribally jacking territory, which will no doubt go down a treat in Miami this March Adding a more techy vibe to the package is Richard Dinsdale with his RIP TDV remix. Richard has just released his debut album through Toolroom records and will be playing at Miami WMC this year. Richard’s mix hangs on the pads in the original mix but beefs up the vocal with a monstrous bassline. Finishing the package off his the rising star Ben Preston. Having only been producing since last summer Ben has already had numerous productions released on Tiesto’s Black Hole Recordings and Armin’s Armada label under his alias Second Left. Both the aforementioned DJs have been hugely supportive of Ben’s productions and the amount of Youtube videos of this is a testament to how big this young producer could be. On this mix Ben add his progressive slant to the original mix and delivers something for the DJS that like Tech House but prefer a melody in there as well. Overall a phenomenal package to bring ‘Hooked’ back for 2009. ![]() |
