DJ Fatboy Slim has cancelled a beach concert planned for his home city of Brighton in September.

Big Beach Boutique 5 was due to take place in Madeira Drive on the weekend of 4 and 5 September following a sell-out event for 20,000 people last year.

Fatboy, aka Norman Cook, has been battling an alcohol addiction and spent time in rehab earlier this year. Brighton and Hove City Council confirmed the planned dates were off and said it was a disappointment.

Tickets for last September's Beach Boutique 4 were put on sale to residents of the Brighton area only. People without tickets were urged not to come to the event, following an inaugural gig on the city's beach in July 2002 when 250,000 people turned up instead of the anticipated 60,000.

Cook lives in Hove with his radio presenter wife Zoe Ball and their son Woody. He released an album earlier this year under the Brighton Port Authority name.

Councillor David Smith, Brighton and Hove cabinet member for culture and tourism, said he was disappointed Beach Party 5 had been cancelled because of the number of people it brought to the city.

22nd June 2009 - BBB5 set for 2010 - Official Statement

Organisers of the now legendary Big Beach Boutique events announced today that they would be taking a break until 2010 to host another outdoor extravaganza. Jim King of Loud Sound who organises the event said today "We've decided to take the year off. Norman has a packed schedule for the summer and we wanted to sit back and give ourselves time to come up with some new ideas to make the next show even better". He continued "We'll definitely see you all in 2010".
Norm is currently in USA where as well as concert appearances, he'll be performing alongside Iggy Pop as The BPA on the David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon shows, then he's back to Europe for a series of Festivals and Shows, including a special UK performance at the V Festival on the 22nd and 23rd of August.
