text source mdn.mainichi.jpA Tokyo-based DJ has been arrested for allegedly swindling a man out of money under the guise of a cancellation fee for a Web site, police said. Police have arrested Shunsuke Sashinami, 28, referred to as "DJ SASHINAMI" on suspicion of fraud. "I couldn't make a living just doing DJ work because it's a job that doesn't pay," Sashinami was quoted as telling investigators. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations. Police specifically accuse Sashinami of calling a 32-year-old construction worker in the Wakayama Prefecture city of Kainan in April 2008 and falsely claiming that 600,000 yen was needed to cancel his membership to a pay site. Sashinami is believed to have made the worker transfer a total of 1.1 million yen to a bank account on three occasions. Investigators quoted Sashinami as saying that he was solicited to carry out the fraud by a man he had met at a club. Police have also arrested Sashinami's six associates on suspicion of fraud and believe that they are responsible for some 200 scam cases across Japan worth about 50 million yen in total between August 2007 and April 2008. |
