Interview: Nowtrax Miami Party Partners - Let's Get Deported!

Interview: Nowtrax Miami Party Partners - Let's Get Deported!
With a month to go before Nowtrax first ever party in Miami, Nowtrax are starting a series of interviews with the event’s key players. Kicking off with Maurizio, promoter of the Let’s Get Deported parties, their partners in the event on March 25th to be held at the Clevelander on Ocean Drive.

How did Let’s Get Deported come into being?

Maurizio: After moving to Sydney in 2007, I discovered the most amazing place ever called The Bunker and had the chance to run parties there during my last year.
It was an afterhours starting every Sunday at 5am ‘til 1 or 2pm. But it just wasn’t enough for me and my crew of party animals, so I decided to do my first house party – a Monday daytime on a long weekend after a double event at The Bunker. Yousef at one point showed up (he’s back playing for us at the Miami event) and it was impossible to fit anyone else inside my house – you couldn’t move and I loved it.
At this time I was having issues with immigration that caused me to leave Australia a few times, so the concept was born: every time I was leaving or re-entering the country was a good excuse to party!

What’s been the funniest thing to happen along the way?

The best and most notorious Lets Get Deported party in my 6 bedroom house. As usual it was a kick on after leaving The Bunker. We went straight to my place where my good friend Michael Doney did an amazing set and we had lights on the stairs triggered by footsteps!
There were people playing with them all day and the visuals behind the decks were the cherry on the cake. The house was packed with 200 people, none expected to find a ‘club’ inside the house, with photographer included.
The party went ‘til 10pm, but unfortunately I passed out let’s say a bit earlier than the end of the party. Thank God Michael made a video so I saw what I missed. Pioneer Pro DJ Dan Tait asked for it for their DJsounds website (the re-edited version, where the people didn’t look quite as messy!) – as he said it was the best house party he has ever seen.

What are you hoping for the Nowtrax party at The Clevelander?

I hope the people and DJs have fun – that’s what this is all about. Obviously for some people it’s more business, but not for me. If they have fun, I’ll have fun.
We will also have the guys from Spunkallovertheworld.com Ibiza filming and interviewing all night –those guys shoot the videos for Circoloco and all the best parties in Ibiza, so I’m quite excited about that too.

What is really inspiring you in clubland at the moment?

Last summer I went to Berlin cause I was considering moving there (though soon understood it was too dangerous for me, so I didn’t move!) and I discovered amazing DJs and producers such as Philip Bader and Channel X. My very good friend Emerson Todd is smashing it there at the moment and Deepchild – you should see what he can do if you give him a drum machine. And as an Italian obviously I have to include Luca Bacchetti and Davide Squillace. Lately, Mathias Kaden is surprising me too.

What next for Let’s Get Deported?

I’m thinking of moving to Barcelona right after Miami – I want to be there in time for Sonar. So who knows? Maybe we’ll do a Nowtrax party in Barcelona…Sonar edition
