Interview: Eddie Thoneick about his plans for 2010

Eddie Thoneick is a name that is synonymous for uplifting, high octane house music in all varieties. With a musical background that includes playing various instruments for over 20 years, Eddie’s focus the last 15 years has been electronic music. His tight sound programming, strong build up arrangements and flair for new house styles are just a few reasons why his tracks get massive support by the most reputated djs, labels and of course, clubgoers worldwide. The list of his remix work for big name artists grows longer and longer: Moby, Junior Jack, Fedde Le Grand, Sebastian Ingrosso & Steve Angello, Bob Sinclar, David Guetta or Roger Sanchez are just a few who want the special Eddie Thoneick treatment for their releases. This shows pretty clearly that Eddie Thoneick is in extreme demand and in the top league of the international dance scene.

1. Happy New Year Eddie, did you have a good one?

Same to you guys. Yeah, was quite relaxing this year. Didn’t want to tour so much, so I decided to have a cozy dinner with my best friends.
2009 was really mad, so it was time to ease down a bit.

2. We see you toured Australia before Christmas... how did you get on? Looked like a lot of fun?

Oz was unbelievable. I think Australia has got to be my favourite country now. I’ve never met so many nice people in one place. Although it’s on the other side of the world it’s quite European.  It was great that I left winter and flew into summer! I toured Australia in cooperation with Ministry of Sound and the gigs were awesome! I also enjoyed the sightseeing and relaxing, but with the best part was the wine! Must admit I’ve always loved Australian wine so I was in heaven! haha

3. What was your favourite city over there?

Definitely Sydney! A mixture between NY city wise, New Orleans from the architecture and San Francisco from the hills. This city has so much to give. From relaxing on the beaches, nights out at the clubs or simply good shopping...my god I had to buy a new suitcase!

4. Was Santa good to you this year?

It was really nice. Celebrating with 3 families together, great dinner and the time together. Presents aren’t so important anymore, simply celebrating the days with family is the best thing.

5. Do you miss vinyl?

Well, when I started with CDs ages ago I missed going to the record shops and buying vinyl (I was a nerd and went shopping every Tuesday morning!). But as you can do so much more action with the Pioneer CD players I’m really happy as I can now express all that I want in a performance. No limits anymore. But I have to say, not a fan of that laptop-DJ thing.

6. Facebook or MySpace?

Definitely Facebook now. You can do so much more with it than myspace. I love myspace as well, but the connection between fans and artist is so much better in facebook!

7. Our friends at Rising Digital just told us you've released your first podcast, what made you want to do that as well as the Radio FG show?

I think it’s important to be involved in podcasting. Itunes is crazy right now, with everybody owning at least an Ipod or Iphone so they can carry the podcasts with them. I wanted to touch base much more with my fans and give something back. That’s also why my partners from Rising Digital and I are working out some fan-oriented things like competitions so watch this space!

8. What is your favourite track at the moment?

There’s so much stuff coming in at the moment, that it’s hard for me to say which tune is my fave. I love the Thin White Duke mix of "undisclosed desire" by Muse!

9. Miami or Ibiza?

Miami-ami-ami!

10.  So, 2009 is done and dusted, the question is, what does the new year hold for you?

A lot of stuff is in progress right now. I've taken some time out from Djing in January and February so I can finish my projects. I've started working closely with Erick Morillo and his Subliminal brand. We just finished our collaboration Eddie Thoneick vs Erick Morillo called "live your life" and it will be released on Subliminal before summer. Next to this track I´ll be releasing a further two tracks on his label aswell! I’m also gonna work more with Defected and Strictly Rhythm. I've been mixing the Strictly Rhythm Miami 2010 CD, which will be released on 17th March. So I've been really busy the last few months!
