huckie will be playing at Wonderland this Saturday - tickets are available now What’s the concept behind Dirty Dutch?Dirty Dutch is the way I look at my own neighbourhood. So many different cultures and backgrounds coming together in one place. The music is a reflection of the people. That's why Dirty Dutch is musically so diverse. Hip-hop kids and techno kids coming together and it's just all love on the dancefloor! What can people expect to hear from you at Ministry of Sound?First things first, playing right next to a legend like Pete tong it's an honour for me! I will play some of my latest remixes and productions. I'll also take it to a lot of different directions; I like to play eclectic sets. Most important to me is to move the crowd so I’m already preparing my music for this gig. Let's gooooo! How does it feel to be described as being as big as Tiesto? It's crazy to even be compared to such a pioneer like Tiesto. I guess people say that because we both have a big following in our own country. I like it how Tiesto isn't scared to think outside the box.I guess that's one thing we have in common. Winning a TMF award while Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren are nominated too makes it even crazier for me. I hope I will reach their status on a global level too. But that's just a dream for now! When did you get into house music? As a youngster I always loved different types of music. I was following house since the late 90's and I always played some house music in my sets even as a hiphop DJ. At a certain point I felt so comfortable with doing just house sets because house is embracing so many different genres. It kind of reflects me because I like to play a lot of different stuff in one set. Seeing dj's play at big parties pushed me even more to play dance music because I knew it was the only way to get to the main stage and I guess at some point I was just infected with that house fever, haha.Where did the name Chuckie come from?Where I grew up everybody had a nickname. Some of my friends had a nickname just to be cool and some of them had a nickname to hide from the police. I know it sounds crazy, but that's just part of the environment I grew up in. My nickname was Chuckie because I was the shortest in my circle of friends and I was always looking for trouble like that doll Chucky from the movie Child's Play. When I had to choose a DJ name I stuck to that name. I should've picked out a sexy name like Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo or David Guetta, hahaha! What’s the future for Chuckie? At the moment I’m working on a lot of new records for the dancefloor but at the same time I’m also working on some pop music. Pop music is just something I do for other artists. I also started to work on my first solo artist album. Hopefully, I finish my album by the end of 2010. It's really hard to combine it with all the touring I do at the moment. But I like to take my time to deliver an album that will really reflect me. Being on tour is a big musical inspiration to me. So it's also an essential factor for the whole production process of my album. To be continued....![]() |
