Eric Prydz Interview for SHM Forum March 2009

Sam Reaves: All of us at the Swedish House Mafia Forum greatly appreciate the opportunity to conduct this interview, Eric. We can't thank you enough! So tell us a little about your background. You began doing hip hop as a kid with a couple of friends during school. What was that like, and how did it lead into the gargantuan Pryda phenomenon that is today? When you were a kid, did you play for an audience? Perhaps play an instrument?

Eric Prydz: Been playing the piano since i was 8 yo. Did a few appearances in school playing synths with a friend as a teenager i was in a synth band called Enemy Alliance, playing drums (electro pads) we did some touring in sweden

Sam Reaves: What was your first experience playing for an audience?

Eric Prydz: very nervous :)

Sam Reaves: How has your life changed since your career took off?

Eric Prydz: well it has given me a chance to live of my "hobby" which is amazing

Sam Reaves: Where do you see yourself in a year, 5 years, and 10 years?

Eric Prydz: i will allways work with music, its my drug

Sam Reaves: What do you spend your time when you dont have any gigs, producing music or are on the road? Any hobbies other than just lounging around?

Eric Prydz: when im not touring i try to get plenty of rest, just hang out with friends etc

Sam Reaves: So on the subject of your music, is there anything we can expect from you in 2009? Maybe that album you've been working on for years now?

Eric Prydz: yes maybe ;) got some nice bits lined up on pryda. PRYDA014 will be released in April 2009, its a 3 track EP

Sam Reaves: It's becoming well known that you will not be flying again for a while. Is there any time frame in the future that you are looking to start again?

Eric Prydz: I've taken a time out with flying as it totally drains me, i did it to much and it backfired and i got burned out. I will get on a plane again for sure, but for now ill stick to horse and wagon untill i got my wings back

Sam Reaves: With the recent denial to broadcast your Sensation set and others in the past, fans who are unable to travel to see you feel left in the dark. Is there anything planned in the future that will allow us to hear another DJ set from you without having to travel to Europe?

Eric Prydz: Recorded performances is a big problem now days for me (and others), because i road test allot of new material and new unreleased music in my set and people will instantly cut the new material out from the recording and upload it on the net witch will ruin the release. its very hard to keep a small record label running when the product is "given away" for free by others but we have been working on a solution for this

Sam Reaves: What track that you've produced are you most satisfied with, and why?

Eric Prydz: oh i cant pick just one. Its really hard to be objective with your own music but tracks like Frankfurt, Agag and The Gift allways puts a smile on my face when i hear them.

Sam Reaves: Any upcoming new talent that really impresses you?

Eric Prydz: swedish producer Magnus is one to watch, really like his stuff also grek producer Acki Farrachotos
