The last five years has seen the UK house music scene storm the world like never before, with a vanguard of talented new DJs and producers who have welded the traditional sound with techno, progressive, trance and electro influences in explosive fashion. Their time is now, and Paul Thomas is amongst this new wave’s brightest stars. Paul’s big break was landing a residency at Birmingham’s Godkitchen and their globally-syndicated GlobalGathering festivals half a decade back; a dream foundation for any aspiring DJ to build their career on. From here on his destiny as a DJ was inevitable, with global tours and critically-acclaimed compilations for the brand and for Toolroom Records’ burgenoning Leaders Of The New School imprint all soon in the bag. “I guess I have gone back to my melodic roots over the past 12 months, making tracks with melodies and big chords, while keeping the beats and bass quite techy and rolling. It seems to have worked well, as I have a lot of cross-genre support, from Van Dyk, Sander van Doorn and Gareth Emery, to Mark Knight, Funkagenda and Steve Angello. But generally I'm just making tracks that I love and that fit into my sets.” "2011 was the year where I really found myself musically. In the past I've always made tracks to fit certain labels, or made tracks which I've thought people would want to hear, rather than music which is from the heart and what I really want to play. All that changed once I wrote 'Tomorrow' with Jerome Isma-Ae, and since then I feel like I've really found my sound and finally feel totally comfortable with what I produce and play live.
Probably the biggest events of the 2011 for me was the GlobalGathering festivals in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus & UK this year. All the festivals hit capacity, with the stand out being Belarus - again. It's such a new and vibrant scene out there, and the clubbers are really receptive, no matter what you play.
I'm ending 2011 in Asia again this year, with Delhi on 23rd, Goa on 27th, Jakarta on 30th and Bali on NYE. I had my first Beatport top 10 earlier in the year, with my 'Ultraviolet' track on Toolroom. That was probably the biggest highlight of the year for me, and it was one of my aims at the beginning of the year.
For 2012, I'm stepping things up a gear in the studio. New single collaborations with Funkagenda & Kim Fai, Weekend Heroes, Alex Di Stefano, Morgan Page and Jerome Isma-Ae and on the way, and I've also signed solo tracks to Spinnin, Funk Farm & Garuda. I'm working on some new big vocal ideas, one of which I'll be launching at Miami. I'll actually be attending my first ever WMC in '12, with some major parties confirmed already. I'll also be launching my 'Ultraviolet' monthly podcast in early 2012. I'd like to wish an amazing Christmas and awesome New Year to all the lovely House Planet members and fans, and thank you all for your support throughout a brilliant 2011. Look forward to raving with you all in '12! x Thanks for your support this year guys... have a great xmas and new year :)
