End-of-year interview with D.O.N.S.

German DJ/Producer and label owner D.O.N.S. has established himself as one of the most innovative, unique, and exciting figures in the dance music Industry. From his solo productions to his bootlegs and covers to his highly sought-after remixes, D.O.N.S. studio output is an ever impressive slew of crafted gems for the dancefloor.

Besides his busy DJ and production schedule, he still devotes some of his time to manage one of the EDM scene’s most exciting and forward-thinking labels, Kingdom Kome Cuts aka KKC, and discover new talents. He is also an active international Ambassador for HIV/AIDs charity Dance4Life, a role he shares alongside artists such as Tiësto and Fedde Le Grand.

We asked him few question about the results of 2011 year and plans for this year:

"2011 was a special year. Quite a lot of changes going on. I signed to a new management company called My Artist Management and I left my former Booking Agency Midnight Beats and signed a deal with Fresh DJs in the UK. I was feeling I had to move forward and cut off old tails, especially due to the changes in the Industry. Besides I changed the way I used to release tracks. I took a planned break from releasing tracks after my last single Rollin' Deep that worked very well and was 10 consecutive weeks within the Top 10 in the Australian Aria Charts. I've been working on my second artist album since May. Unlike my first album where I started to release the singles before the album was done and concepted, I now want to have all my releases ready and in place first to build up the album. This way, I have many more options and tools, I can be more flexible and work with my releases. It actually felt good, and that was the point of the break, to get a feeling and watch the scene with hundreds of releases each day. The daily increase of releases strengthened my decision to actually step back, not join the crazy release circuit and wait until I´m 1000% happy with my own productions. I certainly don't want to feel that I need to release track after track in order to get recognition. As I´m almost done with all my studio work I´m really excited about this year as I have so much music to bring out. Here's an exclusive first impression. The video playing one of my upcoming singles, was shot on one of my greatest gigs this year in the South Of France at La Villa Bivona:

Booking wise I had some great gigs, even though I played a bit less than years before in order to take some proper studio time. After all, my album was not going to record itself! Just to name a few, Amnesia Ibiza was a really good gig of mine, the sold out terrace was an unforgetable night. A 6 gig Sweden tour which was def. one highlight in 2012, Club Monday was insane. What really stood out in 2012 was ADE and WMC (besides the timing stress of WMC/UMF happening on 2 different weeks). We started throwing our own nights from my Kingdom Kome Cuts label brand and they were all a great success so we are already finalizing the next parties for the upcoming WMC. In terms of my label, I teamed up with Swedish upcoming mega talent Mikael Weeremets. The label signed a lot of great tracks and started releasing the first singles of Mikael's album. In signing a label deal with one of the strongest international dance labels Kontor Records, we found a great partnership supporting KKC artists and releases. It was a very good decision and for 2012 releases, we have an amazing set up and offer for new talents, DJs, labels and producers.
The release of my 2nd album incl. 10 singles is definitely one of my major plans in 2012. I´m happy as I already have all tracks signed. Besides I will present and mix the new Kontor Top Of The Clubs compilation in February. It´s the biggest selling dance compilation in Germany and one of the biggest selling ones in the world. Besides I became a Kontor Top Of The Club Tour resident DJ. I´m currently in collaboration with two great and international top DJs. I would love to name them but as we're still talking, I'd rather not do it yet. No, I'm not superstitious ;-).
I have some great tours in Brazil and Australia confirmed and we´re just building up a new studio set up in Miami and a special service for upcoming talents and established DJs. I do this in cooperation with MY Artist Management. In 2012 we will increase the amount of weekly radio stations broadcasting my show D.O.N.S. In The Mix from around 60 stations a week to 100 (at least this is the aim). I added a new format to my radio show. Once a month, you can hear me Back 2 Back with another great DJ. The first one in 2012 will be all time Samplitude legend Olav Basoski. The feedback after the first Back 2 Back set with Peter Gelderbloom was amazing that I felt enticed to continue with this new element in my radio show. I have great DJ lined up mixing back to back with me.
I thank Houseplanet for their constant and great support and wish them, as well as all the team, their fans and supporters, all the best for 2012. Peace and good musical moments. It´s amazing to have institutions like Houseplanet because they keep our music alive and strong.
All the best
D.O.N.S.
