Pete Tong announces IMS 2009 dates

Following on from the success of his intimate industry-focused electronic music conference in Ibiza, DJ Pete Tong has announced that the 2009 International Music Summit (IMS) will take place from 27th - 29th May.

Tong said that IMS 2008 had impacted the future of the scene and the way the music industry moves forward.

“The response was overwhelming; people walked away with ideas for the future, with new relationships forged from different aspects of electronica and the film and brand industry,” said Tong. “In 2009, we aim to build on this with some exciting new initiatives to be announced in Ibiza.”

Whilst Miami’s Winter Music Conference in March has lost much of its core value as a conferencing event as it has become increasingly about parties, the IMS took the idea of an electronic music conference to a much more professional state.

In 2008 just 300 delegates attended the IMS in Ibiza, but the attendees were said to be some of “the most influential players at the cutting edge of the electronic music industry.”

Attendees included T-Mobile’s Head of Music Ralf Lulsdorf, David Glick, founder of investment group Edge, Randy Reed, manager of Sasha and James Zabiela, as well as DJs François K, Layo & Bushwacka and Rob Da Bank.

That type of focus gave the IMS serious credentials, as co-founder Ben Turner explained, “Keeping the intimacy and quality of delegates to the dealmakers is of huge importance to us and those returning for a second year. We aim for the electronic industry to use these three days as a platform to debate but also unveil their plans and visions for the genre’s future.”

The International Music Summit 2009 will be hosted in the plush new Ibiza Gran Hotel and the number of delegate places has been increased by 100 to 400.

Tickets are €295 and can be purchased from internationalmusicsummit.com
