Manchester gets Justice
09 February 2008

Electro pop duo Justice kicked off the first ever Manchester leg of the NME Award shows on Thursday night (7 Feb). This gig was the first in a run of seven by their fellow NME Awards nominees. The likes of Baby Shambles, Richard Hawley and Black Francis will also play the city in the next week.

Manchester Academy 2 was treated to Justice's trademark upbeat electronic rock which has also helped the band land them three Grammy nominations including Best Dance Track with the song D.A.N.C.E. The 1800 audience was packed to the hilt and fans responded well to the duo's high energy run of favourites from their debut album †, and exclusive live remixes.Speaking after the gig, the duo said: “Justice is starting a new show for 2008 with new equipment. It’s a bit stressful for us. Manchester was good fun as the people were really enthusiastic and it gives you confidence.

“It’s great and cool. We love you Manchester people! We love Manchester.” Justice told 6 Music they were glad to be nominated in the NME awards (they feature in the Most Likely to Fill a Dancefloor category), despite the fact the magazine gave them uninspiring reviews in the past.

“'We used to have support from NME and then we saw the review for the record, it was six out of 10. We were really disappointed.” The duo were clear that if they did not win their NME awards category, then the Klaxons should pick up their Brat. “We would like them to win because we love them. They deserve to as they are much better than us. “Their album is great and we think they have made one of the greatest of last year. They are cool.” But even though the duo was complementary about the Klaxons and Manchester crowds in general by declaring them to be 'always up for a party', they were not so favorable about New Order's Peter Hook.

They said he has disappointed them in the past by playing dance remixes of Blue Monday during his DJ sets. They rather cheekily suggested he should 'retire to the Bahamas'.
